But Pune backed themselves to chase the total and made it count with the skipper leading from the front. The visitors keep their knack of having a bad start to this tournament while Smith has started the campaign on an exciting note.
Smith came in at number 3 and kept dominating throughout with Stokes on the other end. Rana who dropped the former on 36 would be kicking himself because that changed the tide completely for the visitors. To make things worse, Dhoni was also dropped in the second last over of the match by Southee but that did not cost them much.
Steven Smith finishes it off in style and takes his team over the line in his captaincy debut for Pune. A brilliant knock from the Aussie lad ensured that the hiccups in between could not hamper the end result. Ajinkya Rahane started the things off in blazing fashion and always kept the required run in check with his sensational 60 in 34 balls.
